In the Media

Media and Science Outreach – Science to Policy

On this page we present our media activity and our efforts to make our science accessible to different audiences.

Our goal is for the science we do to be applied and accessible to policymakers and the general public. To that end, we report on our research findings and the insights that emerge from them through various channels: articles in different media outlets, presentations at scientific conferences, writing articles in Hebrew and English, and direct meetings with policymakers.

January 30, 2018 – Urgent Discussion at the Knesset Interior and Environment Committee

Today, attorney Ariel Elsner, our team’s science-to-policy officer, appeared at an urgent discussion convened by the Knesset Interior and Environmental Affairs Committee regarding the severe condition of the Alexander Stream, resulting from the constant wastewater pollution discharged into it.

Ariel presented and explained, through a short presentation, our research team’s work and our scientific insights into what happens in the stream throughout the year, and its dire condition.

This link provides access to the meeting’s materials, including a broadcast of the session, the protocol, and preliminary materials.

November 17, 2016 – Lecture to the Alexander Stream Trustees (NA"NA)

June 20, 2016 – "The Stream, the Sewage and the Sea" – An Article about the Alexander Stream and Our Research on the Zavit Website

Prof. Gitai Yahel, Prof. Sarig Gafny, and Dr. Yair Suari, three researchers from the School of Marine Sciences at Ruppin Academic Center, took on a challenging task about two years ago: to examine the true condition of the area where the stream meets the sea, known professionally as an estuary, and to study the unique processes that occur there.

June 20, 2016 – Where the Stream and the Sewage Meet the Sea – An Article on the Mako Website

The many hikers who flock to the Alexander Stream Nature Reserve every year may not be aware of it, but they are actually spending time next to a sewage drainage channel originating in Nablus and Tulkarm. Three researchers who took part in the 2016 Annual Science and Environment Conference are trying to bring nature back to the stream.
